Panola Mountain
January brought a quick jaunt around the "self hike" trails at Panola Mountain State Park. An absolutely fabulous
sunny day with little wind helped us enjoy a great hike. The delicious snacks that Alicia provided us all with afterwards
didn't hurt either!
Kennesaw Mountain
Another gorgeous day in late January allowed us to take the quick hike to the top of Kennesaw Mountain from
the visitor's center. The reward was the view and the feeling of accomplishment, and the babies sure seemed to enjoy it as
well.
Red Top Mountain
A frigid Tuesday in early February led us to a nice meandering hike at Red Top Mountain. We took our time and saw some deer
and stopped off for a moment at the lodge to warm up. Our post hike snack was brought to an abrupt stop when all the babies
decided they'd had enough at exactly the same time.
Sweetwater Creek
A warm and cloudy day in March took us back to Sweetwater Creek to conquer
the yellow trail. What a great hike. We were all pretty excited to find out we did about five miles --due to the
great conversation and scenery it wasn't too bad! Welcome Melissa and Michael and Nicole and Sawyer........and Linda
and Alex who missed our hike but joined us later. Hopefully next time I'll hear my cell phone when Michelle calls and
she and Will can join us too.
Chattahoochee River -- East Palisades
A fabulously sunny day on April 2nd brought us to the East Palisades hike at the Chattahoochee River. Narrowly
escaping a giant snake was quite a thrill (okay, he was small and wanted to get away from us more than we wanted to avoid
him) and seeing the river and the surrounding areas alive with Spring made for a great hike.
Kennesaw Mountain -- Kolb Farm/Cheatham Hill loop
We had an absolutely perfect day for our 5.6 mile "jaunt" --a feeling of accomplishment was felt by all after this one,
and sore muscles were definitely part of the experience on the following day. At one point it seemed like we might
not make it and then all of a sudden....there was the parking lot, a sight for sore eyes (and shoulders). Next time
I'm bringing much more water!!
Laurel Ridge Trail --Buford Dam/Lake Lanier
Thanks to Melissa for suggesting this amazing hike. We passed through what seemed like every type of terrain (mountainous,
pine forest, desert, beach...)while enjoying many scenic mini-waterfalls and shady paths. A crisp and bright no-humidity
day certainly helped keep us invigorated throughout the five mile journey.
Chattahoochee--Island Ford Trail
We finally got around to the Island Ford Trail and enjoyed a very balmy
and pleasant hike along the Chatahoochee. We saw some great cave-like areas, crossed a small stream (thanks, Cynthia
for the walking stick assistance) and retraced our steps, due to the closing of the yellow trail
